DIY wall supported cabinet
With the unit now having its real shape and strength I used 25mm bit to drill holes in the top at each side. I then joined these together with a punch saw to make what look like slots in the top.
Lastly 2 pieces are added to the sides of the front, set back by the depth of the doors.
The unit was now ready to vinyl. Fablon is pretty cheap really from Wilkinsons and I chose 'American Walnut'. 6 rolls at £3 each were enough for this part and also to match up the DIY luminaire. The doors which were left as they came were also covered with the vinyl.
Finally the whole unit plus doors were sprayed with clear enamel to protect the fablon from damage and give a nice sheen to the finish.
With the unit now fully covered it was put into position.
The handles, lock from the previous cabinet and some hinges I had were sprayed with matt silver enamel paint
and then with the clear gloss.
The Doors were hung in position on the pieces I had set back from the front of the unit. The handles and lock were added and the cabinet tested by sitting, standing and jumping on it. Test succesful the tank was put into position and the luminaire hanging hooks moved so that the luminaire was above the new tank position.
A complete professional looking cabinet for less than £30. This unit took approx 15 hours to build and finish.
