DIY hood
You are now over the hard part and ready to fit the top panel and flap.
I decided the flap would be a third of the top depth and the fixed panel two thirds. This means that when the hinges are fitted the front flap will have a 2-5mm lip at the front. The fixed panel would be 850mm wide (800+5+5+20+20) and 270mm deep (350+5+5+20+20 *.666)
Mark on the inside of the fixed top panel 10mm in from each corner as you did on the side panels plus one extra in the centre of the rear and drill through the marks with the 3mm bit. Line the hood up with the frame. Get someone else to hold them in place if needed and mark through the holes with a thin nail or bradawl. Drill through these marks as straight as possible with the 3mm bit about 35mm deep.
Take the 50mm screws and attach the fixed top panel to the frame. Test the frame for fit over your tank again to make sure it is reasonably straight and fits. At this point with it fitting nicely you can stop worrying. Once happy put it back where you are working.
The flap will be secured with the type of hinge where only the barrel is showing and not the screwheads. The screwhead section will be hidden between the flap and the fixed panel. ensure you get hinges that will allow the flap to rest on the top panel when open.
Open the hinges and place them the wrong way round so that the barrel rests on the top panel with the screw plate flush to the front piece of the panel (the part that will be the gap between panel and flap.) Mark through the centre of the hinge fixing holes and drill with the 3mm bit. Screw the hinges into place using 10-15mm length screws. Do the same for the other side. I used 3 hinges with an additional one in the centre.
Rest the flap on the fixed panel with the length facing you resting on top of the barrels. Bring it flush with the
screw plates.Again someone holding it in place may help. Mark through the centre of the fixing holes and then drill with the 3mm bit. Then fix the hinges to the flap with more 10-15mm screws.
DO NOT CLOSE THE FLAP YET!!!
For ease of getting the hinge screws in the correct place we put the hinges the wrong way round. Unscrew them, reverse them so that the barrel is now facing the front and then screw them back in place.
Close the flap. If there is a little clearance don't worry. You can now stick some cork/foam/rubber pads on the edge of the flap to dampen any accidental closures.
You can now see a virtually complete hood in front of your eyes.
