Since the last entry things have moved on. All the walls are now painted. The chimney breast in Wilko 'Javea Bean' and the other walls plus the recesses in Wilko budget magnolia.
I had intended to use a dark coloured varnish on the shelves to retain the wood grain of the plywood but the varnish looked far too streaky in places for my liking so rather than have that overly rustic effect in this modern styled room I decided to paint them in the same colour as the chimney breast. The shelves then got a coat of water based varnish. They came out really well and the varnish does the trick of making them look a different colour to the unvarnished chimney breast. The main fish tank LED luminaire got the same treatment.
All the LEDs are in and I have returned the unfinished main speakers to the room. The Music LED control box works brilliantly and responds to bass beats really well. The top row of LEDs is in position and the bottom row has been replaced with the same brand as the others so that all the colours now match.
You may notice that I have added the centre speaker grille. Silver grey would've been cool but I don't like it nor does the wife so I think we will have to go to a more traditional black grille cloth here. The speaker boxes also have to be completed, sprayed black, laquered and then polished to get that super glossy effect.
The room is virtually complete now. All that is left is for me to paint and varnish the skirts and architraves. Then the main fish tank cabinet will be painted and varnished to match the shelves before the fish tank is returned to the left side of the chimney breast complete with a brand new aquascape within.
Here is a quick look at what I did with the air vent that is needed for the blocked up chimney. Still to be tidied up a little.

Not really done much over the past couple of weeks nor will do over the next few because I have a new daughter. I have however returned the fish tank and totally rescaped it. I've also painted and varnished the cabinet and light to match the shelves.
